The city as a classical spatial entity, as a compact protected area, does not exist anymore. In the metropolitan area of Rotterdam – The Haege it is rather a collection of pieces of different spatial entities than one consistent urban system. All together is forms an urban mosaic like expressed in the study of ´Tapijtmetropool´ of Willem Jan Neutelings (1990).
